Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are tooth colored restorations which replace lost tooth structure due to decay or fracture.  Composite fillings are made of white resin mixed with glass particles to give it strength. When tooth decay is found, we start by excavating the decay, then conditioning the tooth surface followed by chemically bonding the composite resin to restore the tooth back to normal function. If tooth decay is left untreated, the decay can eventually reach the tooth’s nerve center, leading to severe pain and an eventual abscess.

At Ortega Cottage Dentistry, we do not place mercury silver fillings on our patients. We believe with advancements in modern technology that composite fillings are a superior material when it comes to comparing the two, both in structure and in aesthetics. Dr. Kim will always conduct a thorough examination twice a year to make sure we catch tooth decay at its earliest stages and get your teeth back in healthy shape.
